Once more: N*ke vs. Dischord

Dear Mr. Kottke, in your article regarding the current N*ke/Dischord dispute that is making the blog rounds you are asking „Isn’t punk all about taking without permission?“.

My answer to that is, as a matter of fact: No.

If you truly believe that punk is about stealing you might be watching a little too much MTV.

If punk ever was about anything that could be applied here, it was about taking back what has been taken away from you. Punk was not about stealing. It was and partly still is, in some naïve minds like mine, about reclaiming some form of social justice, though. And this is exactly what people are criticizing in this case: It’s simply very, very unfair.

To prove my point, I would like to challenge you to use the N*ke swoosh on the top of your website as an „homage“ and see how long it takes N*ke to send some lawyers over. If they do come (and you know that they will), I’d suggest a lot of lightening up on your part. You’ll need it.

All the best from Berlin,
Johnny Haeusler

(Edit: I changed the brand name for obvious reasons)

„Isn’t punk all about taking without permission?“ Selten so gelacht. Thanx for the answer, Johnny.
